World No Tobacco Day

Recently the Ministry of Health and Wellness(MoHW) joined the World in commemorating the World No Tobacco day that was held in Mabutsane on 31st May. The event was graced by the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness Honourable Sethomo Lelatisitswe who emphasized that the World No tobacco day has been commemorated in the country since 1988.

The Assistant Minister said the commemoration of this national event provides an opportunity through which the World Health Organisation (WHO) and partners highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Honourable Lelatisitswe further highlighted that the theme for this year is: “Tobacco and lung health”. The purpose for this year’s World No Tobacco Day theme is to raise awareness on the negative impact that tobacco use has on lung health."

The Minister said emphasised government alone cannot win this battle. He said we all need to work together to conquer the use of tobacco and its products to ensure we all have healthy lungs. "However, I am particularly happy that there are Non-Governmental Organizations that are joining hands with us to control the use of tobacco and tobacco products." concluded Lelatisitswe.
