Jhpiego Close - Out Briefing

The Ministry of Health & Wellness Deputy Permanent Secretary for Health Services Dr. Mareko Ramotsababa and Acting Country Director for Jhpiego Dr. Amon Marwiro met today with other senior staff of the Ministry of Health & Wellness to mark the closure of the partnership with the esteemed organization, Jhpiego. Jhpiego was funded by the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief ( PEPFAR) , through Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to screen women for cervical cancer and treat pre-cancerous lesions from 2015-2020.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness in partnership with Jhpiego trained 171 health care providers to provide cervical cancer prevention services. Through this partnership a number of innovations were introduced. These includes, HPV testing of self-collected samples and thermal ablation; a treatment option for pre-cancerous lesions to improve same day treatment. A total of 123, 845 women between the ages of 30 to 49 years old have been screened during the implementation period.
