MoHW receives and orientates Botswana Global Health interns

The Ministry of Health and Wellness recently received and orientated six interns under the Botswana Global Health Internship program at a ceremony held in the Ministry Headquarters in Gaborone.

Botswana Global Health Internship Program (BGHP) orientation is a collaborative effort supported by the Robert and Sara Rothschild Endowed Fund, Oregon State University of Public Health and Human Science, College of Nursing, University of Michigan and the Ministry of Health and Wellness. BGHP offers students a “hands on” global learning cross-cultural training and community based opportunities. Student interns are also given an opportunity to understand community perspectives on health care.

When welcoming the Interns, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary-Health Services Management Mr. Mooketsi Bafana said the main objective was to receive and orientate the students on selected health programmes as they will be proceeding for the internship program at Maunatlala village from July to August 2018. He said the programme started in 2016/2017 and it is in its second year running adding that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Rothschild and Ministry of Health and Wellness. According to Mr Bafana the program targets students from diverse academic backgrounds and interests including Public Health, Nursing, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Social Sciences. “The programme will help us improve community health; understand local cultural practices and beliefs and how they impact on health and wellness’’ Bafana said.
