Food security and quality conference and exhibition

The Minister of Health and Wellness and also the Member of Parliament for Mmathethe- Molapowabojang Hon. Dr. Alfred Madigele officiated the food security and quality conference and exhibition at fairground Holdings in Gaborone. The conference was held under the theme “food safety for all from farm to plate”.

Speaking at the opening ceremony the Minister said that food is considered a basic human right and a primary source of nourishment and optimal functioning for our bodies and it should be handled and processed safely because if not it can be a source of distress to great majority of people. He noted concern, with the growing evidence of violations of food laws and regulations by some food businesses.

The Minister higlighted that all stakeholders should ensure that the food supplied to the public satisfies the requirements of food laws and regulations and that control systems should be in place to prevent, eliminate or reduce risks to consumers. He also said that he believes the outcomes of the conference will stimulate dialogue on how the challenges faced by all parties concerned should be addressed.
