MOH Supports Community Income Generating project

16th July 2014, Following a community services project at Mmokolodi, MOH identified a community development program to support the Mmokolodi community through the Village Health Committee. This intervention is also aimed at reviving the spirit of community involvement through income generating projects. Under this initiative, the Mmokolodi village health committee received a two-week pottery-training course organised by the Health Promotion & Education Division.

Pottery skills should assist the committee in establishing a self-sustaining income generating business that can be a source of livelihood for its community and members.

Through the Primary Health care strategy, the Ministry of Health recognises grassroot income generating projects such as the Mmokolodi VHC pottery project as pivotal in supporting and empowering VHC’s and other community based organisations to sustain self-managed businesses that can improve the social and economic status of their communities as well as address poverty and other factors that impact on health. In Botswana VHCs have played a major role in promoting health outcomes through supporting community involvement and participation in their own health.
