Patlo fund raising initiative

Setswana marriages involve not just the coming together of couples, but their extended families and the entire community. Customarily, this weeding process is called (Patlo). It involves a formal process of complex negotiations between bride and grooms families to arrive at a bride price, lobola or bogadi(traditionally paid in number of cows) that the groom must pay to the the bride's family.

MoH staff used the marriage custom practice of patlo as a concept of patlo for raising funds for a community service project. The dress code for the day was a traditional dress leteise and showels for ladies and formal wear for gentleman. The Department of Public Health acted as the groom's family while the Department of HIV AIDS Prevention and Care became the bride's family. So the groom's family paid bogadi and other MOH Departments contributed monetary presents as friends and well wishers. The activity raised around P3800.00.
