MoH starts construction

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has embraced the national vision 2016 pillar of “a Just and Caring Nation” as well as the President’s Housing Appeal whose objective is to provide shelter to less privileged members of the society.

The Ministry held a groundbreaking ceremony of a two bed roomed house in Artesia. The beneficiary is a 17 year old young man who currently residing at SOS. Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony the Minister of Health Honourable Dorcas Makgato said that the day marked one of their milestones towards the fulfillment of their social responsibility as a ministry. “It is in our interest to see to it that basic accommodation is addressed since it is one of the critical factors of social determinates of health” she said. In his welcome remarks Kgosi George D. Thwane of Artesia thanked Ministry of Health staff for their efforts to help the beneficiary.

“The ministry continues to raise funds through various ways and I am confident that even with the uncertainty of where funds are going to come from, the house will be completed on time and budget,” she said. Minister Makgato extended her gratitude to Kgosi George Tlhwane and his community for their immense contribution towards the project, adding that the community of Artesia has pledged 2000 litres jojo water tank and has also identified a builder as well as labourers to work on the project.

When giving an overview of the project, Ms Mphoyamodimo Mongati- Senior Health Officer in the Ministry of Health said the project started back in 2012 and through the office of Kgatleng SWO identified a beneficiary in Artesia Village who was in dire need.

When giving a vote of thanks, Member of Parliament for Mochudi West Mr Gilbert Mangole reiterated the advice from Honourable Makgato that the house should not bring disunity in the family but rather joy. To date the ministry has handed over seven houses in Francistown, Palapye, Shoshong, Goodhope, Masunga, Letlhakane and Kazungula. The Ministry continues to raise funds through different fund raising activities such as Casual Fridays Fundraising activity.
