Health minister encourages staff to be self-driven

The 6th Ministry of Health and Wellness Annual Achievement Awards were held under the theme Clear, Bold and Self Driven Workforce.

The objectives of these awards are to encourage excellence, recognise and reward significant performance, uplift staff morale as well as to promote efficiency in health service delivery.

In his keynote address MVA Fund Chief Executive Officer, Michael Tlhagwane said the Ministry’s effort of investing in human resources by nurturing and motivating its employees is an excellent initiative. “The foundation of any high performing organisation is rooted in its engaged human resource and supportive leadership’’ he said. Tlhagwane added that the theme called for a transparent, courageous and motivated workforce.

When addressing guests Honourable Makgato encouraged her staff to be self-driven to achieve ministry's mandate of delivering quality health service to the public. Makgato said the awards ceremony is an important occasion that provides an opportunity to take pride in workers who are skilful and steadfast in their work as an integral part in the ministry’s success. ‘’Without these values and a desire to make a change, people’s lives would be in danger, as by nature and design we are in an environment that requires one to have clarity in the way they think and see things, and to be bold and self-driven in their resolve in ministry issues.’’ She added

The night ended with the Minister’s driver Mr Mosanko Keatlhotswe walking away with the Minister’s special award for executing excellent determination towards his job. When presenting the award Makgato described Mosanko as a humble, determined, trustworthy and reliable employee 'who goes above his duty's expectations. "He does not confine himself only to what his job is. He is a representation of what clear, bold and self-driven is and he is the type of driver who supervises his own supervisor, as he is bold," she beamed. Read more...
